Community Spotlight

Doors of Hope Transition Ministries helps struggling families in Lafayette County with a comprehensive program that offers self-reliance and stability through life-skilles training, mentoring and supportive housing.
 
They developed from a homeless task force in Lafayette County to address the needs of the homeless in our community and received its nonprofit status in June 2011. The first shelter units opened in July 2011.
 
Doors of Hope Transition Ministries provides:
  • A loving, supportive and nurturing Christian environment to live
  • GED tutoring or vocational tranining referrals
  • Assistance in job location
  • A case manager to help families work through problems that cause their homelessness
  • Weekly instruction on how to manage money through budgeting and banking
  • Weekly instruction in life skills
  • An opportunity to save money
  • Referrals to appropriate supportive agencies
  • Shelter in a furnished apartment for four months
 
Immediate needs include canned food items, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish detergent and general office supplies.
